- Type each name exactly as you want it engraved — up to 9 characters per teardrop, including spaces. Capitalisation is copied exactly as you type it, so type Emma, not emma.
- Check your spelling twice. Each piece is laser-engraved to order and cannot be re-engraved. This is the one step worth slowing down for.
- Add to cart and check out. You'll get an order confirmation email immediately with your engraving details listed — check it, and reply within 12 hours if anything is wrong.

How many names can I engrave?
Between 1 and 5. Each name gets its own teardrop charm, and each teardrop holds up to 9 characters including spaces.
What if a name is longer than 9 characters?
The teardrop physically cannot hold it. Most customers use the short form — the name they actually call the person. "Christopher" becomes "Chris," "Alexandra" becomes "Alex." If you're unsure how yours will sit, email us before ordering and we'll tell you honestly.
Can I use nicknames instead of full names?
Yes, and most grandmothers prefer it. "Nana's Boy," "Peanut," "Bug" — if it's what she calls them, it's the right choice. Same 9-character limit applies.
Can I add more names later?
No. Each necklace is engraved as a single unit and cannot be added to. If your family is still growing, two options: order the 5-name version now and leave the extra teardrops for names you'll add at reorder, or order a second necklace when the time comes.
Is it real gold or real silver?
No, and we'd rather say so plainly. This is stainless steel with a gold-plated, rose gold-plated, or silver-color finish. Stainless steel is the more practical choice for something worn daily — it doesn't bend, it doesn't dent, and it handles being worn by someone who cooks, gardens, and picks up grandchildren.
Will the engraving wear off?
The names are laser-cut into the metal, not printed on top. They don't rub away with normal wear.
How long is the chain?
18 inches with a lobster clasp. That sits at collarbone level on most women, which keeps the teardrops visible above a neckline rather than disappearing under it.
Can she shower or swim in it?
She can, but we don't recommend it. Chlorine, salt water, and prolonged hot water will shorten the life of any plated finish. Taking it off before swimming and showering is the single biggest thing she can do to keep the colour looking new.
Does it come in a gift box?
Yes. It arrives in a gift box, ready to hand over.
Can I send it straight to her?
Yes. Enter her address as the shipping address at checkout. No pricing appears anywhere on the packing slip.
When will it arrive?
Production takes 4–5 business days, then shipping begins. Standard shipping is 12–20 working days; Express is 5–9 working days. Your total is production plus shipping — please allow for both when ordering for a specific date. If you have a deadline, choose Express or email us and we'll tell you whether it's achievable before you order.
What if the engraving is wrong when it arrives?
If we made the error, we remake it free or a refund will be provided(shipping charges not included). Email support@getengravings.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of the piece.
Can I cancel or change my order?
Yes — free of charge within 12 hours of placing it. Email support@getengravings.com with your order number. After 12 hours, engraving has usually begun and the piece can no longer be changed.
Can I return a personalized necklace if I change my mind?
Personalized pieces are engraved specifically for you and cannot be resold, so change-of-mind returns are limited, if production has already been started. Faulty items, shipping damage, and our own engraving errors are always covered in full at no cost to you — see our 30-Day Return tab.
